Some renters from my dad have '80 or so C60 its gas, a 1 1/2 or 2 ton im not so sure but it looks as if it has a big block it has a stock intake that to best describe it looks like a edelbrock rpm air gap and one funky lookin water pump but anyways is this a 454 maybe and if so would it make a good street motor or would it be just a low HP high torqure maybe good for a 4x4

maybe a 366 industial. Lots of torque, but not a lot of power.
Stellite valves with sodium cores (to take the heat away) , A real work horse.

What tranny does it have? 5 speed?

I found a Preformance engine webpage with this description:

We are asked about the 366 BBC "tall deck" truck engines often. Unfortunately they are not worth using as a performance motor. Safe overbore is .060" and that doesn't make much. They can be stroked but then you can't find pistons to match "off the shelf" and so custom pistons are required. You can "harvest" the heads, oil pan, valve covers, crank and rods from them to use on another larger bore Mark IV BBC. Otherwise, don't waste your time or money. The 366 makes a good low power heavy duty truck mule engine or an excellent boat anchor.

That answers my question but it is a standard not sure if its a five speed though. Thanks Scrub.

greg, dont rule it out yet. if its a stock C60 motor, its definitely a tall deck. HOWEVER, not all tall decks are 366... there's also a chance that its a 427 tall deck. those can be used as performance engines i do believe.

Someone correct me if my memory is faulty, but wasn't the tall deck 427 used in the Corvette HP engines at one time? That would mean both factory and aftermarket performance parts are out there.

as far as i know, its only a medium duty truck engine. not used anywhere else in the line-up.
