Powdercoating
How thick is powdercating. How much of an imperfection will it fill and how smooth does the surface have to be to have a nice finish. Like a cast part.

Powder Coating
I just got back from picking up 4 bed sills from the powder coater. The parts I took to him had some pretty good surface rust. He sand blasted them then powder coated. I got what I asked him to do, powder coated. However the parts seem to magnify all surface blemishes from the rust. Luckily the guy who did the work was a real super dude, he saw the dissappointment I had on my face when I picked them up and said he would try to make me happy by trying a new filler that he had heard about. If that don't work he said he would sand blast them and let me prep them myself with filler. It was really great to have a guy tell me that he would work with me and make me happy, I won't turn down a chance to reccomend him.

Powder coating will not fill pitting from rust. What you see now will be what you see after it is powder coated, only of coarse it will have the coating. It may soften the look a little, but it won't hide it. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

for cast parts like engine blocks and heads to get a real good finish you have to sand and grind it smooth for parts that have pitting i have my powdercoater put a hery heavy base coat on then i sand it and have him recoate it with a finish coat and have had excellent results doing it that way. it's really like painting the more prep work you put into it the better the finished product is going to look
