It was Van or Step Van- seen them in the past but forgot the exact application.

I'm actually going to put all yellow emblems on my '72 like you Rene because they will match my Dark Bronze truck better. The Blue matches nothing on my truck.

NO! I couldn't "bare" to put the early seat in a later truck. But when I get another '68 I will be SCREAMING for a CST seat!

So what did this same emblem in blue originally come on? Classic Parts has what appears to be a NOS one on the GM box in their display case. Just curious.

The what we know as "67/68 type" bowtie 10/20/30's were also used on the P-series step vans up into the 70's, which is how the bowtie color changes came into play. If guessing, I would say the 67/68 bowties were red, the 69-72's were blue with the later production 73 and up pieces being yellow, maybe? Any how, here are a few NOS pieces from my collection, the bowtie tens no matter the color all have the same GM p/n on the box, as do the 20's and then the 30's. Mel

Re: Yellow Bowtie 67-68 Fender emblem

I wonder if there are yellow ones for 73 to whenever Chevy went to gold. The Stepvans didn't change in style until, possibly, the early '90s. But,the gold didn't start until the late '70s-early '80s.

Hey Tim, in my above post #9 the picture of the NOS bowtie fender emblems shows (bottom right 10 emblem) what I believe to be the 73 and up yellow. Curiosity got to me, so I went out and dug through my nos caps and the yellow bowtie 10 is a dead on match to these five nos pieces. The top two are 3/4 ton caps, and the lower three are all 1/2 ton. Mel,I guess you're right. But,when I look at these things in person I see the yellow used on caps as a dark yellow, close to Ochre, and when I look at the fender badges I see them as more of a Medium Gold. In the picture with everything together it looks convincing, but when shown separate they look gold vs yellow to me.

Thanks for the compliment, how about we try the same pics only this time with 69-72 Blue, the top left and top right are 3/4 ton pieces and the top center and bottom three are all 1/2 ton. You know I was just called the same thing in another thread last night, call it what you want but really I am just another normal dude that is both happy and very fortunate to have acquired the NOS parts stash that I have, while staying married and raising three youngsters. That is just wrong mel!!!! So how big is your NOS collection?
Question on the blue 1/2 ton caps... What would the silver painted cap go with? Which type and color of wheel? I have seen those caps, but never researched them much. Eric

Hi Eric,
hows that, I thought everyone here loves looking at pictures, dont you remember the "this thread is worthless w/o" quotes? The silver caps with blue bowties were were available in both 1/2 and 3/4 ton versions in 1969. I don't know a whole lot about them besides that they were the early 69 model year first design (out before the bright caps) as GM was switching from the other 67/68 style caps, I have only seen these installed on a few trucks and they had matching silver wheels. I will take a look through my original GM brochures and pictures, I remember having a picture of a C/20 when new wearing these caps. Mel

Re: Yellow Bowtie 67-68 Fender emblem

I agree, learned a bit myself, I bought my truck a 69 cst and it came with yellow hub caps, I was told by a board member that they weren't original for a 69 but more likely in the 70's, now thanks to this thread I know what color they should be and what I have exactly.....I love learning about the history of our trucks, very interesting.
Thanks,
Ray

Hey Ray, thats a nice looking truck. Your pictured caps are from the later 70's thru sometime in the 80's. In the above post #18-bottom left 1/2 ton bright w/blue bowtie is the type of cap you should try and locate. Mel

Re: Yellow Bowtie 67-68 Fender emblem

Hey Mel,

Great collection you have there! My caps all look their nearly 40years old, and what a difference to see what brand new ones looked like! I have a '72 C10 fleet side swb. The grill has the blue bow tie, but 3 out of 4 of my caps have the yellow ties, the other is blue (my brother-in-laws tire shop didn't put it back on correctly after a rotation and it came off. All he could locate was a blue one....I still give him a hard time about that one.. But your posts above makes me think that all them should be blue, maybe?

I am the 3rd owner, and just assumed that the yellow ties on my caps were original equipment. Just interested in what you think.

Restoring my wheels and caps is something I'm interested in doing sometime this year.

Cool stuff you have!
