Tire & Schock Recommendations
We've toyed with acquiring a newer Tahoe or similar to pull our 16ft Scamp over-the-road on yearly (and sometimes semi-annually) trips from western Washington to eastern Texas and central Missouri to visit our kids. But we both kinda' like our old 83 Jimmy and haven't been able to get beyond the lookee lou stage.
Presently it wears highway tread 235-70x15 Michelins and Rancho 500 shocks. I have been saying, "One more trip" for several years, but now I'd better get serious. It has a Banks turbo'd 6.2 diesel and an upgraded 700R4. The Scamp weighs about 2000# and the hitch is a Pull-Rite swing type. The drivetrain would be fine with something like 30-9.50x15's or even 31-10.50x15's. I could go with Rancho 9000's, Edelbrocks or just about any shock. What I'm looking for is economy and smooth ride over-the-road for these long trips. We aren't getting any younger, unfortunately! Any suggestions? Last edited by 4pilgrim4; 02-06-2011 at 11:40 AM. |

How old are the RS5000 shocks? I've always had good luck with them. I've never stepped up to the high dollar shocks, but never felt I needed to.

I suppose I could buy a few more years and miles by shifting the mounting an inch or two and no one else would know the difference! :>) Really, those Ranchos have served me admirably. I'll probably go with them again. |
