project "Abby" resto rod with ls swap
well this is just the very beginning on this project. I picked her up 2 weeks ago now from the lady who baught her off the lot, her son (I work with him) rebuilt the 305 and tossed in an rv cam, edelbrock carb and performer intake aroung 30k ago. she got a new truck so I picked up her old one.
future plans are a 6.0 with a cam and ported heads, 90mm intake, 4l80e, stall, posi(or rear end swap), drop, rebuild suspension(poly urithane), reapolster interior, paint, upgrade brakes, ect.. first day I brought her home the body is solid, the small amount of rust on her is minor surface rust, the bed always had a crappy bedliner(which was dryrotted and I threw away) in it so the only dent in the ribs is from me. found a suburban bumper with brackets and everything for cheap so my buddy and I threw it on during our lunch break. I hate the molding strip but the guy pretty much gave me the bumped when I got the brackets from him. the bench seat is getting reapolstered as I write this in a dark grey, and the sunvisors to match. I'll be fiberglassing the dash and door panels and either painting them or wrapping them to match the seat. I plan on having her in a 2tone primer in less then a month that I will be rocking for a while, but will be similar to the final pain scheme. updates soon. Re: project "Abby" resto rod with ls swap
this engine will be going in her. just pulled it from my s10(Mia) last week, I was having tranny issues and decided to throw a milder setup(cammed 5.3) in the s10 to daily drive her and make abby my next project. now I need to find some headers and a 4l80e to put on this thing. engine specs are currently lq4 rotating assy tr224 cam (224/224 .56x/.56x 112lsa) stage 1 243(ls6) heads milled .025 dual valve springs hardened push rods yella terra 1.8 rockers pro products intake ported to 90mm tb all the pretty stuff on the engine are stock parts I modified and refinished. I dont know if i'll keep the setup just like this, I know I want to get the heads ported more, I'm not happy with the cnc job on them. and I might choose a different cam if I have the money. really I would like to build a forged 382 from an ls1 block but that wont be any time real soon. i've had the seat in for a few days now but i didnt get a pic of it in yet. just picked up the sun visors tonight. i'll grab a few more pics tomorrow when I put them in. I did it to a stock look for now because she will be used as a truck when I need to.

Re: project "Abby" resto rod with ls swap
small update, mostly been working on getting mia(the s10) back on the road so abby is getting neglected till I have some time.
got the bench in also got the sunvisors done to match and put in the 6.0 is out of mia and will be getting forged pistons and rods, might change up the heads too. the intake is just sitting on the engine its going back in mia(s10). I got in a new grill to replace the busted one but it was the one for single headlights on the 84s so I cant put the molding on it. so I ordered the right one for her earlier today. should come in next week. Also picked up a 75 dash that i'll be shaving, glassing and putting in abby somewhere down the road. off topic, I got the other engine back in mia last night, the new setup should get me around 22-24 mpg with some taller tires. hopfully getting her running by sunday.*cross fingers*

Re: project "Abby" resto rod with ls swap
Nice build i love the seat im looking to do something like that to mine....... how long did it take them to finish your seat and around how much did it cost..... i have called places here in NC and they say its gonna cost me close to $500..... just wanted to see if that is an amazingly high amount or if people are doing there seat for around that amount

Re: project "Abby" resto rod with ls swap
it took the lady a weekend and she did the seat and sun visors for $150. most of my foam was in good shape though.
she does whole interiors(seat, door panels, head liner, sun visors) for $400, my buddy got his whole interior done by her, but she does it as side work so she doesnt charge a whole lot. 500 for a redone stock seat is outrageous though. find someone else.

Re: project "Abby" resto rod with ls swap
Great new project buddy! Gonna be nice, hopefully the 6.0 likes it better in Abby than Mia!
This was Red. My 87' GMC 3/4 ton. 355 vortec. built 700-R4. I went completely through this truck. Everything was perfect. Wish I'd never sold her! 6.0 swap would have happen. It would have been a great truck to start with! Justin Last edited by Butcherboy; 04-20-2010 at 01:59 PM. |

Re: project "Abby" resto rod with ls swap
nice truck
well small updates but she will get more work done on her soon because Mia(my s10) is back on the road! I put the new grill on and got some new sport mirrors for her, I also pu in a new passesnger window motor and put new window seals in. I know I said that I would start getting her in primer before but I put that aside to finish my last project. but now that mia is on the road abby will get more attention. new grill installed new mirrors the mirrors will be put on next week, the doors will be the first part in primer and get the surface rust repaired. does anyone know where to get vent windows that dont open? I like the look but I hate how much they wistle on the highway. if anyone cares to see the s10 here are the recent pics and a burnout vid. blazer tank behind the axle with relocated filler neck burnout vid (she is still untuned) she has everything done I can think to do. upgraded dual caliper front brakes extreme front sway bar 2/3 drop 8.8 ford rear with ford racing carbon posi, 3.73s, and disc brakes blazer tank behind the axle with walbro 255lph fuel pump. hustler 1 5/8ths mid length headers 5.3 with comp springs, pushrods, and 215/221 59x/56x lift 115 lsa cam(good low end cam and blower cam if I get the itch) 3200 circle D stall Afco dual pass rad and dual electric fans a few other little things that I dont remember right now.

Re: project "Abby" resto rod with ls swap
well I got her dropped and have a few other little updates but my computer is not liking me so no pics right now. also the plans for abby are changing, she will just be my "truck" as I have a new project that will be getting all my attention. abby will just be getting cleaned up and maybe a vortec 350 or something. the 6.0 and all of my money(wich is very little right now) will be going to my 55 chevy truck project.

Re: project "Abby" resto rod with ls swap
plans changing again, abby will be getting an ls swap, dont know what yet but she will. I got done pricing out a nice 350 and a 5.3 or 6.0 and its about the same if I want equal power output, plus the gen 3 v8s will last longer and get more mpg. current pics coming in the next few days. I need some gas for my welder so I can get some body work done.
oh and the 55 will be getting an 8.1 and a 5 or 6 speed.
