Starter issues - what would you do?
I have a 68(?) 250 bolted to my 63 three speed trans.
When I've gone to start it, the starter sounds like it's catching every third tooth, NOT a grind, but a sort of bumping/growling sound. It's spinning the flywheel/crank fast enough to start, and it usually does. And it doesn't appear to be damaging the flywheel or starter gear, but I feel it's just a matter of time before it shreds a tooth or three.... and it sounds like CR*P while it's cranking. My issue is, that the starter is bolted to the 250, which I know is NOT correct for the 63 (230) flywheel. The problem is that the lowest of the three 63 bellhousing bolt holes has broken off (completely off of the bellhousing), so... Should I get the correct 63 starter and take my chances on the two remaining bolt/bolt holes holding, or should I stick with the 68 starter bump/growl dance? |
