Re: Lets See Your Steering Setups
I used a three joint, 2 shaft set up on mine.
You'll also need a support bearing. See it here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/2601498...7606265799089/ |

Re: Lets See Your Steering Setups
Here is mine. It uses an Astro van shaft for the ends, and a 74 truck ("cut pioints photo" for the center for the slide joint and crash crush zone. By build thread had more detail around the Feb 2009 dates. The column is a 82 Eldo, box is Chevy truck 3/4 ton PS unit.

Re: Lets See Your Steering Setups
I have a 49 cab ab
nd had to notch the corner of the mount to make room as well as using 2 shafts to get around the headers. I think that everyone does this with the mustang II set up. Nsane has a detailed shot of his fram notched for the steering set up. Orrie has a different power steering set up on his so it is different than if you run the power steering pump on the block. I am still in the set up stage myself but the steering clears and there are no issues but it is CLOSE. Let me know if you need some more detailed shots. I primed teh cab today so I getting close to getting this back on the road.

Re: Lets See Your Steering Setups
I am planning on filling in the stock hole in the firewall where the column comes through, and making a new one a couple inches over.
If everything I've seen is correct, this will yield more clearance for the header, give a straighter steering shaft route, and center the column between the gauges. I cant run a stock large steering wheel, but i planned on running a smaller sized one anyway. |

Re: Lets See Your Steering Setups
Should have clarified that mine is a TF, I wanted to show how the Astro and stock pieces can be used. My PS pump is mounted on the water pump and exhaust manifold bolt, I had to massage the brackets to get them to align correctly. The rams horns manifolds make it a little easier too.

Re: Lets See Your Steering Setups
These are Borgesson stainless units I got from a UK vendor.
Great quality and I bought the non polished ones (cos I'm tight) and polished them myself. They're so well machine finished I had each one like chrome in less than 15 minutes buffing. The support bearing came from Summit. It has a slightly larger I.D than 3/4" for the shaft to rotate. |

Have you driven it at all yet? I was wondering about the engine torquing under load and the header touching the shaft. Mine is tight to the header but not quite as tight as yours. Last edited by BigJock; 03-03-2011 at 04:15 AM. |
