Sagging Bench Seat-Drivers Side Fix? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I did a search on this and thought I would ask a question.

I had this issue on another bench seat in a Ranger I drove in the 90's (I know.) Anyway, I took out the seat and swapped the springs from the center of the bench with the Drivers side and walla - problem solved and the third person riding always rode a little shorter. Anyway, I am on a tight budget.

Would this work for a 68 bench seat?

I just did this to mine and it did the trick. I think there were at least two different kinds of springs used in these seats - some that use zig-zag springs and full depth foam and some that use a different coiled and bend spring and have only about two inches of foam on top.

Mine happened to be the seat with the coiled and bent springs and all I did was uncover everything and swap the broken/worn and good springs around. I also bought two feet of some cheap 12' long bulk low pile commercial carpet at Lowes (make sure it has a real stiff backing) and put two layers of that on top of the springs and put everything back together. For $15 in carpet it works great and is much firmer than before.

I need to try this fix, my seat sags on the drivers side. Ever once in a while I find a metal piece under my seat that has fallen out of the seat.

Don't do what the PO of mine did.He removed all the cover and padding and installed a booster made of plywood,2X4's, and screwed and carpet glued it together.The seat didn't sag,or even give for that matter.The cover and pad were put back on so it looked OK but a few miles and the ole 'roids were a screamin'.I went with a pair of swap meet buckets but kept the originals to use(maybe) once there refurbed.(Utility buckets)
