Found a neat license plate
Does anyone know anything about these plates? I know they were sold by the state of Florida back in the early 70's, i think it had something to do with trying to get people to were their seat belts.
Also, did any other states ever make any speciality plates? I found this one a few years ago in Ga., forgot all about it until i re-found it the other day, going to put it on the front of my truck, thought it'd look pretty cool! |

Re: Found a neat license plate
Some info:
http://reviews.ebay.com/Florida-Arri...00000004053568 "So what's the story behind the old FL arrive alive license plates? They were placed on the front of vehicles during the "Arrive Alive...Don't Drink and Drive" campaign of the 1970s. Some of them were officially used on FHP vehicles, and some local sheriff/police departments also used them. They could also be purchased at one point for use on privately owned vehicles. Read below for a list of Arrive Alive plates." " Here are some arrive alive plate examples: 70-71: blue background/reflective white letters. Steel plate. Some used on FHP patrol cars. 72 : off-white/orange letters. Steel plate. Some used on FHP patrol cars. 73-85 approx. : off-white/orange letters. Steel plate. This is where they get fuzzy. These were exactly like the 72s but had no date on them. Some of these were used on local police/gov't owned cars and some on FHP cars. approx. 1985-2000 : undated plate with green letters on a white reflective background with orange state map - these have the slogan BUCKLE UP at the bottom and were used on some local police/gov't owned cars but again very few on FHP cars." http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedi...e-arrive-alive "In 1970 Florida prison inmates at Raiford prison produced this plate with the slogan ARRIVE ALIVE 1970-71." http://www.floridalicenseplates.com/detail.php?c=a

Re: Found a neat license plate
I got it installed on my truck tonight. I really like it, looks better in person. I painted the holder same color as truck, think it really adds to the front, especially since i don't have the bowtie on the hood... (which doesn't fit because of the hood)

Re: Found a neat license plate
That's a cool plate!
I must say that "Arrive Alive" is probably the most fitting statement for Florida what with all the retirement communities down there!

Re: Found a neat license plate
"Arrive Alive" was more a message to snow birds than Floridians. People fly down I-95 from the N/E trying to cut their travel time and a lot of accidents occur as a result. You would see these tags all up and down the east coast. I guess back in '71 only sections of I-95 were starting to open and it was US1 carrying folks up and down the coast, which was mostly not limited access or divided. The need for an interstate was overdue. Everything under the sun was crammed along that road, from businesses catering to travelers to locals. Just imagine folks barreling down the undivided hiway trying to carve time off their 1,000 mile or more trip with people pulling out, making turns,pedestrians,passing,drunks...

I don't know how this thread got so side tracked, but while we're at it...Every time I see you are from Stuart it brings back memories. I think I might have told you I lived in that area for a while, first in Rio then up in Walton along Indian River Drive. I haven't seen much of Florida but I think that has got to be one of the best areas along the Atlantic Coast. Most people I tell I lived there don't seem to know where it is. That's a good sign. It was still mostly country in the late '70s. I sure met some great people there and had a great time
