Re: In the arizona area
I am from Tucson, so I don't know much about Phoenix, but I would not expect to find many parts deals at junkyards, based on my Tucson experience. There are still many squares on the road in AZ, and the junkyards are usually picked clean of any useful parts. Also, junkyards in Tucson want big $$ for what they do have.
On the other hand, there are a lot of whole trucks in the $2K - $3K price range that are in pretty good shape. Just check Craingslist and AutoTrader online for Phoenix and see what I mean. An AZ truck with no rust but some smallish dents and running will start at about $2K. Add for good engine and trans ($750), presentable dent free body ($750), nice interior ($500). Electrical wiring and connectors/switches and anything made of rubber or plastic is usually fried in the AZ sun and not worth much, so be careful about that stuff. |

Re: In the arizona area
Grunion Customs on cave creek in phoenix is a real cool custom shop. Also Porterbuilt is in mesa you can check them out. There is a real great parts yard on 35th ave and buckeye it has alot of sqaures and the parts are cheap. they have set prices for everything 80 dollars for any transmission 120 for any engines. I have seen 3 454 motors there and for 120 bucks you could turn around and sell it for double that on CL if you wanted to.

You might look at Desert Valley Auto Parts. They are a junk-yard that specializes in Detroit Iron; you can walk around and find what you want, then they pull the parts for you. Prices didn't seem too bad to me.

Re: In the arizona area
Additional wrecking yards not mentioned are two different ones in south Phoenix. Both are on 27th Ave 1/4 mile north of Buckeye Rd, they usally have several square bodies there, I think one is called ecology wrecking.
Also who ever mentioned that the Good Guys is Thanksgiving weekend may want to double check the date, I think it's the 19-21.

Re: In the arizona area
There is also a shop called Grumpy's that sells all new parts for 47-87 Chevy trucks. Its on the access road of the I-17 on the east side of the free way between Bell rd and Union Hills. They have a lot in stock usually and seemed fair price to me.
There is another custom shop called Auto Culture on 7th ave and Roosevelt area. It used to be called street beat but they are under new management. They have a lot of bag parts from what I am told but don't know how they are pricing since I have never been there.
