I have one from a 71 Chevy 2wd LWB that I am parting out. The tank is good but the cap has a couple small dents to it. Not sure if they can be smoothed out or not. You can have it for the shipping. Let me know if your interested.

Someone took my gas cap when I was at a wrecking yard,I guess they thought since it was a u-pull it yard they could take parts off the trucks in the parkinglot

Not sure but I think it is an original cap. Polished stainless. Dents may be to heavy to work out nicely for a low-mile original truck. Will look at it closer tomorrow when get home from work. I can post pics but give me a bit of time. Still not a computer whiz by no way and this digital camera gives me fits sometimes. LOL

mtdave2, Sorry to say the cap is worse than I had thought. It seals good to the tank but has a half-dollar size dent about 1/8 " deep. Result of a nice truck going into the ditch and rolling twice and in the process becoming a parts truck. Was not the truck's fault, young kid wanting to "lets's see what she'll do when ya' get on it". I bought it from the Dad who was not at all pleased with his 17 year old son. Boy was ok, few bumps and bruises but learned a lesson. One lesson being, using a seat belt can be a plus. Other lesson being drive Dad's truck with a responsible attitude.

I did some searching and found new GM paintable caps (part# 3914958, about $11) on www.gmpartsdirect.com that will work for 67-71 but is not listed for 72. I guess 72's had a different style cap (vented vs non-vented or something similiar). Sorry I couldn't find one for you.

oh there is a differance and I found that out the hard way. The parts guy at a local parts store has a 1/2ton. he gave me the locking gas cap number he used, it didn;t fit and we spend a while lookin through some books and finally found it. the part that connect to the gas tank tube is bigger on my truck then his. Go fig.
