305 v6 dip stick

I just got the truck and I went to check the oil and the tube came with the dipstick, but the tube looks broken. I just came from the junk yard and the guy had one but it was broken too. Can I weld this?

I would suggest checking with/joining the Jolly GMC website. They are the experts on everything GMC V6:

Re: 305 v6 dip stick

Andy,

Some of them were that way at the factory, once you clean the parts you will notice that the longer tube fits perfect in the smaller tube. (99% sure) that was because the larger series truck that used the same V-6 blocks had a modifed oil dip stick (longer) The lip pressed around the longer male tube. This was GMC's answer to making the tube long enough to reach from up top. The older engine I had, had one like this.

You can do two things, weld it up or put them together, bend the lip back over and put a smear of JB Weld on it , prime and paint. It sits so low on the block, no one cam see it clearly because it hides behind the exhause manifold.

Also remember to use a clip to hold it against the block.

Re: 305 v6 dip stick

I have used a torch and brass on several small block tubes . Worked good for me .
