What the heck are these?

1950's frame. What are these sheet metal pieces along the engine and on the one cab mount for?

The second pic protects the battery from road rash. The side ones I never understood.

The side ones are deflectors but deflectors for what I never figured out. They may have been intended to aid with airflow for the road draft tube but that's just a thought and nothing more.
