1965 c10 - radiator is leaking... fun times ahead!
1965 c10
My radiator is leaking somewhere... I predict fun times ahead! I really don't care for the feel of anti-freeze on my skin... but I have it to do I guess. At least the weather is supposed to be nice! -W |

Depending on where the leak is you can use jb weld to fix it. It will hold just fine and very cheap compaired to the alternatives.

Can't you just get a new radiator for about $200?
Definitely don't want to see your motor get fried!

I'm purty sure it is the radiator itself, from behind the mesh guard somewhere... that or a hose is loose and it's spraying... not sure yet.
If it's the radiator, I'll pull it out and take it to the local radiator shop. We still have one of those. -W |

Well I got the radiator out... that lower hose did not want to come loose! IT got me to talkin' some kinda bad... but I fetched it!
It's at the radiator shop now, so I'll know more tomorrow I hope. Once I got it off and out in the light, I could see the green anti-freeze all in the back/engine side of the mesh fins(dunno the technical name)... and I could see where it had been corroding a bit. I checked the hoses and things to make sure it wasn't being sprayed on there, but everything looked copacetic. Maybe they can fix it, we'll see. -W |

Well, they were able to fix it, apparently they had to replace a few rows of the tubes in there. I picked up the radiator today... got it reinstalled and poured in the new anti freeze... had to tighten down the two hoses a little more with the ratchet(I have a tendency to over tighten things, so I was being gentle).
Warmed it up, let the thermostat open up and kept pouring it in. Took it for a little shake down run and added a little more water to the bottle/bag. So far, so good. Yay. -W |

And I am betting it was a helluva lot cheaper to fix yours vs. buying one of those new aluminum radiators.

Re: 1965 c10 - radiator is leaking... fun times ahead!
well... $65 bux for the flat rate repair... and I bought 3 gallons of concentrate of anti-freeze, but only used two of them(or 3.5 after mixing) so that was another 48 bucks... plus the hassle of the mess, but yeah... lots cheaper than a fancy radiator!
I asked for a quote one time for a radiator for my truck, the engine and trans. setup and it was several hundred dollars... so, I'll just keep along with this one for now! -W |
