Re: stepside
68 Stepbed- would you mind sharing your wheel / tire sizes? Drop and back spacing? Thanks.

Re: stepside
Thanks, guys! I'm glad I can bring some inspiration to your builds.
Wheel/tire specs: 17x8(4"bs)-255/50/17-steer, 17x9.5(5.5"bs)-275/55/17-rear with 1/4 spacer. I recommend 5" bs on a 9.5 or wider rear wheel. Drop specs: 3.5/5 drop- 2.5" spindles and 1" drop springs-front, 5" drop springs-rear. I also have rear shock relocators and a Super Track Bar from ECE and KYB shocks.

Re: stepside
I'm also running ECE but with a 4/6 drop. My wheels are 17x8 all around with 4 inch bs. Front tires 255/55/17, rear 275/55/17
After all of that, I measured the width in the front and in the back and found the front to be 3 inches overall wider than the rear... I think the spindles pushed out the front. Was this a problem for you and the reason you spaced out the rear? |

Re: stepside
The spindles do widen the front track width. That's why GM widened the rearend in the 71-72 models. I have a 72 rearend under mine so that's not the issue. The 5.5" backspacing is just too deep. It clears fine as long as I'm driving in a straight line, but when I make turns or when the chassis flexes, they rub on the inside of the bedsides. If I were still using a narrower 67-70 rear, it would be worse. It still rubs just a little bit with the spacers, but only when turning into somewhere with a grade and the chassis flexes more.

Re: stepside
I'm really not sure exactly on that. I've never measured track width, but I beleive it may be. An interesting facto about steppers, though. The stepside fenders aren't as wide as the fleets, so the narrower rear track width isn't as noticeable on a stepper as it is on a fleetside. A good way to see this is to look at different trucks with the same size wheels/tires on all four corners. The feetside look like the wheel is sunk under the bed more than the front, but the steppers look even.

Re: stepside
Step side and four eyes even less popular. Just the way I like it.
