Alternator amp/ air compressors

Just realized the early 70's & 80's alternators are only 40/50/60 amp alternators. I am going to run 2 viair 444c compressors that are 30 amp draw each. I have a red top optima battery. Will the alternator be enough or will I have to find a bigger one.

Re: Alternator amp/ air compressors

If you are running two compressors in unison, I think you should update your alternator. I would consider any of the 90+ amp units on the market.

Re: Alternator amp/ air compressors

I called a friend of mine at an alternator shop. If any of you guys wanted to up grade to a bigger alternator. The part # that any parts store could cross would be 7294. It comes 94 amp, but your local alternator shop could get you up to 150 amps. This alterntor should be factory for 87-90 chevy trucks. I has to be the one with the solid plastic fan on the front. You learn something new everyday!

The HO 305 Camaros (82-8x) typically also have an interchangeable alt w/higher amps.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
