Bolt the rear bag to trailing arm?

so I am mounting the rear bag in place of the coil spring and bolting it on top....do I need to weld a bag plate and then a center bolt through the trailing arm? just a bolt and no plate? What do ya'll think?

Re: Bolt the rear bag to trailing arm?

I used Slam Specialties air bags.
I just bolted them to the trailing arm.
No bracket.

You are so right!
Thanks for supporting the board.

I used a 3/8"x4" bolt with a heavy washer to secure the bag to the trailing arm.
Then I made a template of the top of the bag.
I used this to locate the two bolt holes and the air fitting hole in the frame.

Re: Bolt the rear bag to trailing arm?

in reading different threads I saw that you need to drill the mounting holes front to rear with the fitting to the inside.....the kit I got supplied two straight and two 90deg bag fittings and I used the 90's on the front so he sent me two 90's for the back. Thanks guys....made my template and gonna drill the frame today!

Re: Bolt the rear bag to trailing arm?

daved,... I also used studs in the top of the bag (instead of mounting bolts).
It's such a tight area of the frame,... that most of it is done by "feel".
You can then shove the studs up thru the frame, and much easier to install a nut on the stud than to start a bolt into the bag.
Plus I know I have full "thread engagement" into the bag.
Just my way of doing it.

Re: Bolt the rear bag to trailing arm?

Did anyone bother to use stainless bolts/studs ? The base looks to be aluminum on my Slam SS7's ?
