fuel system questions and issues.

hey guys i got my truck running on saturday but ran into a few issues...

1. seems my fuel rail and injectors got some varnish in them cause i was having issues with fuel getting to the cylinder and i took them off and there is some varnish residue in the injectors, i tapped it out of them...is there a way to get the injectors and rail cleaned out?

2. my pressure side russel fuel quick fitting came off during testing and sprayed gas all over...this has happened twice so i ordered another one. has anyone had this issue before..i am going to install the new one and let it pressure test for an hour..this really freaks me out...especially if i was going down the highway and the thing popped off with a hot motor. It never went on as easy as the return fitting did,,i hope i had a defective fitting.

Re: fuel system questions and issues.

1. You can/could soak then injectors in something like seafoam to see if it helps de-varnish them. There are also a large number of companies who will professionally clean and flow your injectors.

2. Make sure you have the right sizes (the 3/8ths will fit and kind of "snap" over the 5/16ths line, but not tightly. I almost did this when hooking mine up). Also make sure the plastic peice inside of the fitting isn't broken. You probably just had a bad fitting but better to be safe.

Re: fuel system questions and issues.

yes i had the right connector, the thing is it never really snapped like the return line and it was very hard to put on....just didnt feel right..if it fails pressure testing again with the new fitting i am just going to cut it off and put a compression to an fitting on there.

will the seafoam hurt the electronics?

X2 on the Seafoam. It won't hurt the electric parts. Let them soak over night and re-install and you should be good to go.

Re: fuel system questions and issues.

have you guys seen the videos on youtube where they take a switch, 12v ps, a fuel injector connector and a cut off syringe and use them to reverse flow and normal flow clean the injectors...that looks like the way to go man.!!

now to find a fuel injector connector with about 6 inches of wire on it?? any ideas?

whoa nelly, take a step back from the compression fittings. I had the same thought (since it's easier than going tube nut ->coupler_> an) however if you read the fine print, those are NOT for efi. They are only rated for ~25psi. I saw them on summit without that rating, but a different wholesaler has the "25psi" limit listed on the product page.

Re: fuel system questions and issues.

note that it says "50psi max pressure" (i misquoted and said 25psi). Technically our fuel systems run at a higher pressure than that. I understand that the fitting will "probably hold", but still probably not the greatest idea.
Best to either a. use a sleeve and tube nut and make a 37* flare on the line, then attach using regular AN fittings...but you need a 37* flare tool for this.
b. go from 3/8 tube nut ->female to female coupling-> 3/8 male to -6 AN adapter. This leaves you with all threaded mechanical connections, which will hold well over and psi the rail would ever see.

Re: fuel system questions and issues.

Pretty sure the plastic clip would be at fault on the fuel line.

Re: fuel system questions and issues.

low_84, those compression - an fittings now have me very curious.
The 50psi rating is the only thing that has me thrown off. I checked around and it seems like some people ARE using them on high pressure efi, but just as many saying to stay away. If anyone else has experience with these please chime in. the risk of an engine compartment fire is not something I look forward to.

Re: fuel system questions and issues.

Found this over at LS1tech after I noticed I could pull mine off way too easy.

Re: fuel system questions and issues.

I saw that earlier as well. I used those on my rail, so I have to watch real close when I go to pressurize the system for the first time this week. Hope i got the good ones.
