Custom Shifter Lever.
Ive been doing some searching on the board and seeing that a few guys have put NV4500 5 speed's in their pickups, and i was curious if i ever installed one could you take the shifter lever from a SM465 or SM420, take it out and install that shifter inplace of the 5 speed shifter? thanks

Re: Custom Shifter Lever.
Sure...just cut off each shifter below where the boot will cover and reweld the 465 handle to the bottom of the 4500 shifter. Once the boot is in place noone will be the wiser :-)

Re: Custom Shifter Lever.
Ive done that before too. Some knobs have a circular recess in the face, for those you can simply have a decal made with the shift pattern on it and then cover it in a few coats of clear coat. Some of the toyota knobs even have a clear "lens" thing that covers the recess, if yours is like this then just carefully pop it off apply decal and replace the lens.
If you have the old school mushroom knob, you could mill a recess into the face and repeat the above. Ooooor, find a bolt that fits the NV4500 knob and just cut the threaded portion off the 465 shifter, weld the new bolt in place, grind the head smooth to match the shifter diameter and screw the 4500 knob on. You could also use an allen/socket-head bolt which will already have a round head (less grinding). |
