1. have the wire for one of the doors hiden some where on the outside of the truck. im not to sure but i think a 9volt batter can unlock. 2. Or just charge your battery and hit the unlock button |

Re: power door locks on a 1965 gmc
Do I have to hack to door latches, or can I just lock the button and use the bar on the inside? A stereo shop said that's what they would do, then they would charge me $100 a door to run 2 wires and screw in the actuator to the rod.

Re: power door locks on a 1965 gmc
I don't have a key for my doors, so I have no idea what happens when the door is locked
Guess I need to buy some locks and figure it out from there.

Re: power door locks on a 1965 gmc
When I make it back to Stockton I would like to check out your truck. I might be up there around fathers day or the week after but I am not sure.
I usually pick my son up from his Aunt at the Stockton PNP.

Re: power door locks on a 1965 gmc
OK, this was a lot easier that that write up. I didn't weld anything. The only thing I did was grind out the pin and replace it with a bolt.
Pin removed: Bent the spoke for the actuator to fit around the lock pin: Put the hoop over the lock pin: Reinstall: Here is the orientation of the actuator in my door See the screws are hidden by the door panel (ignore the "test" hole): DONE! The actuator locks and unlocks like a charm. The window clears the actuator and there is no binding at all.

Re: power door locks on a 1965 gmc
Good job. A lot simpler than mine
Posted via Mobile Device i was taking a look at your install again that actually moves the handle when you hit lock right? so you can unlock it with by pulling on your door latch from the inside? the write up was so that the lock and the handle would be seperate. the handle would only open the truck and the actuator would only lock and unlock. Re: power door locks on a 1965 gmc
I did what the stereo shop quoted me $100 to $250 per door to do, that was all. I wanted the ability to lock the door from inside with the handle or lock from the outside with/without the key. If my battery is dead, I can still get in/out.
Plus it only took about 20 minutes per door.
