Back Tires/Wheels & Stock Tubs

For the guys that have a bit more rubber than stock, what are you running?
What did it take to get things to fit?

Everyone else . . .... what are you running?

Re: Back Tires/Wheels & Stock Tubs

I sectioned my tubs and added about 3" width to them.......a 275 isnt huge, but it was mostly due to rim offset. My wheels are for 88-98 3/4 ton 6-lug. The spacing is perfect for the front but slightly deep for the rear. I also have no bed floor so it was very easy to do. You can see it in this pic.

Re: Back Tires/Wheels & Stock Tubs

I did a similar thing w/my RestoRod back in the day. 31x18.5 Mickey T's on custom back-spaced 15x14 steelies. Stock frame (minus the bumpstops) w/trailing arms.

This truck won't get much more tire than a 255/70 or 275/60-15 but I seem to remember these tubs as being a tight fit. I don't have a truck to measure accurately so figured it would still be beneficial to gather intel.

Re: Back Tires/Wheels & Stock Tubs

On my '66 Burb I'm running 275/60-15's on 8.25 rallys. Just had to massage the outter lip a little. I'm not sure how a Burb compares to a pickup for tire fitment, but I think they're pretty close.

Do you remember the back spacing for those 8's?

I did a set of steelies for a buddy years ago on his 65 & IIRC they were 15x8's w/4"bs. I just want to make sure that's a common measure.

'64 stepside with a 4" drop 295 50 15's on a 15x10 rally with centered 5" backspace.I rolled the outside lip of the fender up about 1/2 inch. They rub just barely on the inside in a hard turn. With a stock suspension the fenders would be high enough they wouldn't rub unless it was loaded down.

Good lookin' truck. This 64 I'm getting info for will be dropped so 10's would require mini-tubs.

Here's what I did. I'm running an 18-inch (section width) wide tire.

Are those the Hoosier Pro-Street radials? How do you like them?

I was considering the 29x12.5 because it seems to be a difficult task locating 15" rubber that's 29" height & fits a 10" wheel. Closest thing so far is the 275-60-15 @ 28" tall & about 18.8" wide @ the contact patch.

We might just stick w/15x8's for the rear ("KISs"..... keep it simple) & run some 255-70's. Another option @ a slightly higher expense was the 285-60-16 @ 29.5" on a 16x9.5.

They're a really nice and comfy tire...unfortunately, Hoosier no longer makes them in the 31x16.5-16 (I run a vintage set of 16x12 Ansens). So, I run a set of Mickey Thompson ET Street radials in a 315/65R15 on an extra set of Ansen 15x10 wheels during the summer to try and save the Hoosiers since I don't drive too much during the winter.

This is exactly the info I've been searching for! What are you running up front? the same setup?

Would you Please post some pics from the rear of your truck as to see the rear tire meat. This is the exact stance Im going for but I might drop a little more from the front.

285-60-16's on 16x10 steelies for now. I've been planning for some vintage style 'mags' but the back-spacing 'is what it is' which ultimately requires some narrowing on the rear end.
