boxing frame ???
to start with, 66 shortbed fleetside - c4(1994) corvette front and rear suspension. I boxed the frame rails from in front of the front suspension to the rear of the step notch - now I'm thinking I want to put some holes(3") in the inside boxing plates but have some questions.
1. I do not think the holes will affect strength, but if you have an opinion I'd like to hear it 2. How do you keep trash(dirt/water) from collecting in the frame when driving in bad weather or dirt roads this is being built to be a autocross/road race truck that is show quality so any help will be appreciated.

Re: boxing frame ???
Not sure how to answer #1.
As for #2, I would drill some small drain holes no more than 1/8 inch at the low parts of the frame. That way water can drain out.

Re: boxing frame ???
How many holes are we talking about? why the holes anyway? Not sure, but I would think if you cut holes all the way down it wouldn't be as strong as it would be without the holes but it'd still be stronger than it was before you boxed it.
I drilled some small holes in the bottom of my frame rails so if water got in there it would have somewhere to go. |

Re: boxing frame ???
If your thinking for weight, you might save what 5-10lbs? Lot of work, especially if they are on the truck already.
Thinking along the same lines with my project as you: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=456481 |

Re: boxing frame ???
it would be more for looks than for weight, plus it would allow me to run the fuel, brake lines, and wiring harness in the frame. I know it would probably be to much work, but i think it would look cool. Just about to take the cab off for the last time and prep the frame for paint, so if i change something it needs to be now.

Re: boxing frame ???
In building off road jeeps we would dimple die the holes. It would add strength while removing weight. When we would plate everything it would add alot of weight the dimple dies could cut that down about 1/3rd.
