How to replace 1981 C10 Tailgate Handle & Locks
I've search all post, but did not find anything on changing tailgate handle & locks. Since there's no access panel and this is my first attempt to change the Handle & Locks. Can someone give me some quick instructional steps on how to do this?
Thanks Last edited by jcloud6; 06-22-2011 at 08:00 AM. |

Re: How to replace 1981 C10 Tailgate Handle & Locks
Use a lot of WD-40 (or whatever you prefer) and take your time. The handle ass'y has 3 bolts, remove them. Putting some spacers (wood scraps, etc) between the latches and the strikers will give you some extra "wiggle room" to unhook the rods The latch rods are held to the handle ass'y with clips, you should be able to remove them either by prying with a screwdriver (may have to hammer) or a pair of pliers. . Once rods are detached the latches can be unbolted and pulled straight out. If you need to order a handle, order the rod clips at tthe same time, you'll probably need them. Good Luck!
