Re: 71 step side lay frame...help

The notch will depend on tire size.
The distance from the frame to the ground will be a good start.
Probably a 10"-12" step notch.

(Not complaining,... but your threads are really hard to read)

you wont lay on 22s with a stepside unless you have a narrowed rear end. the tires will hit the fenders

I don't really agree with this very general statement.
Tire height and rim/tire width will be the issue.

With the correct backspacing and a short tire you should be able to tuck a 8"-8.5" rim in the small rear stepside fenders.
If you want to mini-tub the bedsides,... you can tuck a 10" rim,... with the correct backspacing.

Re: 71 step side lay frame...help

I can kinda agree with that statement. Im having the same issues at the moment with my stepside. My frame is roughly 2 inches off the ground, it lays front crossmember tho, lol. The inside of my notch is 12" and still has alot of clearance so i put a bump stop in there. And my tires are like 29" tall. I narrowed the rear 3/4" on each side and I got roughly another 1/2" of clearance between the tire and underside of the fender. So i dropped the rear a little bit more. But I also cutout the inner bedsides. I don't knnow if that helps any.

These are 22's,...
Yes it's got a narrower rearend and a 25 series tire (if I remember correctly),... but it could be accomplished with the stock rearend housing and the correct backspacing on the wheels.

Re: 71 step side lay frame...help

my truck WAS a stepside and i had 20s. wheels were 8 1/2 inch with i think a 5 inch backspace.. layed out and tires hit the fenders and ruined my paint.. with a 245 35 20.. you would need to tub the bedside and have a wheel thats really sunk in to the wheelwells
