thanks for the input , could you tell me how they were different, was it the location of the bolt holes or the whole design ??

For the most part it was the location of the holes. The inners i had were old and definatly beat up, so it was hard to tell if the over all shape was actually different. I think the spacing of the holes that bolt to the fender may be a little different also. The one major difference was the lack of a spot to bolt the 81+ battery tray to, since the 73-80 tray mounts on the core support. I trimmed my battery tray to clear the older inners and it fit and looks fine. This may not be an issue with your fenders since as big as they will end up being, there may not be room for a battery in that location anyway. Just thought I'd give you a heads up.
