Factory Air Blower Motor/Fan
I recently got my factory ac up and working on my 72 DD and am happy with the cold temperature of the air but not the volume of the air/fan speed. I heard one time that a fan/motor out of a 73-87 was a direct fit and would significantly supply more volume. Does anyone know about this and does anyone have any results or comments? Thanks.

Re: Factory Air Blower Motor/Fan
I'd like to know the answer to that also.... the stock unit is fairly anemic.

Re: Factory Air Blower Motor/Fan
Not to turn this into a for sale ad. (I previously tried and had no takers) I have 2 NOS AC Delco blower motors that I thought were 73-87. If someone knows for sure the part numbers, I'd love to know. Seems there were a ton of blower motors AC made and they are not always easy to identify....also seems the same blower was used for different models with different numbers. This is what the ones I have look like..

Re: Factory Air Blower Motor/Fan
Found this-not sure if it helps-I didn't like the way my fan was blowing on the 69, so I took everythng out and found the fan "wheel" that mounts to the fan motoer shaft was spinning-the metal piece that is in the fan wheel used to mount to the shaft spins free on the round fan itself-hope that makes since
anyways here's what I found: Mechanical Catalog Item Number MSRP Core Price Price 22098831 $59.50 $0.00 $47.60 Hvac - Controls - Blower motor Blower motor, caballero, el camino, w/5.7l diesel 1984 Add to Cart Contact Us 22098831 $59.50 $0.00 $47.60 Hvac - Controls - Blower motor Blower motor, all models, w/o ac 1984 - 1991 Add to Cart Contact Us 22098831 $59.50 $0.00 $47.60 Hvac - Controls - Blower motor Blower motor, buick, w/o ac 1984 - 1990 Add to Cart Contact Us 22098831 $59.50 $0.00 $47.60 Hvac - Controls - Blower motor Blower motor, chevrolet, w/o ac 1984 - 1990 Add to Cart Contact Us 22098831 $59.50 $0.00 $47.60 Hvac - Controls - Blower motor Blower motor, oldsmobile, w/o ac 1984 - 1990 Add to Cart Contact Us 22098831 $59.50 $0.00 $47.60 Hvac - Controls - Blower motor Blower motor, pontiac, w/o ac 1984 - 1989 Add to Cart Contact Us 22098831 $59.50 $0.00 $47.60 Hvac - Controls - Blower motor Blower motor, all models, w/o ac 1984 Add to Cart Contact Us 22098831 $59.50 $0.00 $47.60 Hvac - Controls - Auxiliary heater & ac - Blower motor Blower motor, all models 1984 - 1990 Add to Cart Contact Us OEM Catalog Item Number MSRP Core Price Price 22098831 $59.50 $0.00 $47.60 Hvac Controls Blower motor w/5.7L Diesel

Re: Factory Air Blower Motor/Fan
Make sure your cowl vent door is closed, and your kick panel vent door is open when the A/C is on. If that kick panel door is shut (the recirc) your air volume will be reduced tremendously.

Today 12:31 AM Why would the volume be decreased? Wouldn't it just be pulling air from the cab instead of outside? It would seem that wouldn't restrict airflow enough to decrease the volume of air to reach the blower motor. I'm not saying I'm right just thinking out loud. |

If his temperature is cold, then the cowl door is probably shut, as well as the water bypass valve closed. The cowl door lets in outside air. The passenger kick panel controls the recirc (pulls air from inside the cab)

Re: Factory Air Blower Motor/Fan
Is there a way to check to see if the cowl vent is open or closed without taking off the cowl? I haven't looked at it yet but thought I would ask. Thanks.

Re: Factory Air Blower Motor/Fan
I was thinking the same thing! I also thought that you could change the "squirrel cage" on the fan motor just like you would change the radiator cooling fan from a four blade to a seven blade-I just don't know which later model "fan cage" pushes more air and will fit in our housings. Maybe a suburban has a different fan or a little smaller cage that will turn more rpm's.

Re: Factory Air Blower Motor/Fan
I wonder if you could supply the blower with power through a relay to the battery like the headlight mod and get more rpm's that way?

Re: Factory Air Blower Motor/Fan
I have never had a problem with air volume from a factory A/C system. Check for any leaks in the vent hoses, also check the flapper on your diverter box. Check the airflow at the heater floor duct. Have you capped off one end that feeds the center vent?
