Red face engine won't shut off

I have this acutron remote starter to start the engine. The engine starts but won't stop. I even disconnected the cables from the battery. There is no other source of elec power, not even a fuse box. I had to put a rag over the carb to stop engine. I am troubleshooting this newly restored 350 while i have this hookup. Any answers. Thanks in advance. 73 oldie

Re: engine won't shut off

You're probably backfeeding the distributor somehow. as long as that has power the engine will run. Either the remote starter is wired wrong or you might need to add a diode somewhere.

Alright, this is pretty obvious but I'm not trying to offend you because its happened to me before. Are you starting it with the remote and trying to shut it off with the key? Or are you starting it with the remote and trying to shut off with the remote? I had a Mustang with remote start once and had to hold the button down for like a minute to shut it off.

Re: engine won't shut off

disconecting the battery the engine will run on the alternator, its a good way of checking if your alt works on an old vehicle. try the doide idea

Red face Re: engine won't shut off

Hi juiceman, The remote is an " acutron." One alligator clip goes to the sol post and the other goes to the pos post on "batt." Once the engine starts i immediately remove the pos alig clip. On the batt post on the starter i have the pos cable from batt, and 2 wires coming from the alt. All on the same post. One wire comes from the hot post on the alt and the other comes from the 2 wire plug. This could be the problem. The "ezwiring" manual did mention a diode, but where does it go and where do you get it from. The 2 wires coming from the alt, the hot post and plug are soldered together to a " fusible wire." The wire coming from the "dist" batt hookup goes to the pos cable, a constant 12v. That' s all the wires. I hope this helps. Thanks frankyjoe w/73oldie
