Re: original '64 survivor on Ebay

Great looking truck! I would like to find one similar to that one. I really like the look of the stock wheels.

Likaroc13, I actually ran accross pictures of your truck this past weekend from when you were toying with selling it. I was running a search for "custom cab" because I was trying to figure out the differences between the custom cab and regular cab. I really like your truck with all the stock trim, big back window, and short bed! If I was into trucks last year when it was for sale, I probably would have bought it.

Anyways, thanks for the post.

i was only toying with selling because i had found another '66 that was more original than mine...however, it sold before i could make any moves...so i still have mine & continue to tinker with it

That's a pretty tasty nugget right there! Seat looks like it may have been recovered though.? If Delmo sees this truck, he'll drop that 67-72 and 55-59 nonsense he got mixed up in like a hot rock. ...should have never swayed.

Wow...with the exception of the bumpers and hubcaps, that is MY truck...

7,500 with no reserve met is a bit ridiculous. Plain jane truck and great shape though

Re: original '64 survivor on Ebay

I'd agree with dtkarst -it is a really nice unrestored truck, and appears to be all original - but I do believe the seller may be overplaying the worth of mere "originality". In the end, it's a fairly rust-free small window 6 cylinder truck. Am curious what the reserve is or if this is just a fishin' trip and we're the fish... But, as they say, it's only original once! Considering the body condition, I'd say the price (if it were to sell right now at around $7600) is about right. much higher and I'd start to feel like the seller should at least buy me dinner afterwards.

Re: original '64 survivor on Ebay

as i am completely new to the old chevy trucks, can someone help me understand why this is a 10k truck? and i sincerely am asking - no disrecpect intended. i have a 63 that is def not as nice shape as that but seems nearly as original with a 283 4 speed on the floor. i wouldnt esstimate it to be more 2-3k? maybe i am underselling mine but i certainly wouldnt expect 10k.

just curious as to what makes one model so much more valuable than another?

Re: original '64 survivor on Ebay

Any vintage car buff could warn you to stay away from a problem vehicle with a dubious history. If you have ever owned one of these, then you know the joyless frustration and/or expense that goes with endless repair. Worse yet is attempting to rectify sloppy work (especially paint/body work) by previous owners.
This universally negative experience ultimately brings all hobbyists searching the used car market to the same place: Find the best example of your favored car or truck that you can afford, and buy it.
To find an undamaged, complete, straight, and unmolested driver wearing it's original paint means you have essentially found the holy grail.
What's more, is that a growing share of industry enthusiasts have tired of the 100 point restoration and now favor untouched survivors as the cream of the crop.
like jocko said, ...a car or truck can be restored a hundred times, but it's only original once!
Though the subject ebay truck may be lacking certain optional equipment that would widen its appeal, what it does have looks pretty good!

Re: original '64 survivor on Ebay

Excellently stated, this is the answer and well spoken. Something this old that remains untouched generally does not hide any sins. And the cost to repair an old used truck even to the level of originality and completeness shown is not inexpensive. Thanks for sharing the link.
