How to ID OE from Repop steering wheel
I am looking at a steering wheel for my truck. How can I tell OE from repop. In the pics it almost looks too good to be OE.

Re: How to ID OE from Repop steering wheel
I don't know about the re-pops but here
are photos of the back side of an OEM 1969-72(?) (not sure which year) showing the identifying marks on it. The stamping appears to read 9749758. The six holes (vents, fixture points?) are fairly equally spaced around the wheel. There is a seventh hole kinda plopped in there too. I don't know if these wheels varied from year to year but at least this might give you a start. If you need a pic of the front, let me know. I would ask the seller for some clear photos of the back side of the one you are considering. Especially if they are asking top dollar. |

Great pics and great info. The seller is less than 10 minutes from me. It's not a big deal to just go look at it. I just want to be prepared to identify it.

Re: How to ID OE from Repop steering wheel
I'll check behind mine later tonight....I found one with one small crack in a wrecking yard. P/N should be the same, right? What is on a reproduced one (or missing) to compare?

Re: How to ID OE from Repop steering wheel
That listed p/n looks good except for that last digit, the last number should be a 3 which sorta looks like an 8. These OE black wheels can be found with the molded p/n 9749753 and also under the later replacment p/n 335212 which is the same black steering wheel, just a succeeded part number. Mel

Re: How to ID OE from Repop steering wheel
Thanks Mel. Is there any difference between years? This wheel came off a 70 model. No guarantee it is original to that truck but that is where it was last. I am putting it back on my 72 Cheyenne Super. My wheel was in great shape until 2 years ago when it developed a crack. I was really bummed.
