Tailhousings are different as are output shafts. Both can be swapped without tearing the entire tranny down. Two different configurations for speedo, one uses a plastic gear (mechanical) and the electronic version uses a magnetic reluctor wheel. Both go on the same place on the output shaft. Ask your tranny guy for sure about this when you swap the output shaft and tailhousing.

Also, make sure you're running one of the later 700's ('89 and up, IIRC). Easy way to identify the case is that the case casting line runs right through one (or both?) bosses for coolant lines, the earlier ones miss it completely.
