is my truck ruined?
i recently traded for a '66 swb.pretty good truck.problem is,i believe the truck is a '65 with a '66 vin and title.when the previous owner got the truck,it had an out of state title,so he had to have the truck inspected.passed without a hitch, but all they do is verify that the vin matches the title.they know nothing about the correct type rivots,or the changes made from year to year.
the truck has no reverse lights, has one speed wipers,no factory seat belt anchor points, and has '65 emblems. so my question is,how bad is the value of the truck hurt because of the vin swap?i know that it is a felony to swap the vin,but i have no idea when this was done.i traded for the truck because it was way better than the '68 swb that i traded to him,and figured i could recover my money easier, quicker. |

Re: is my truck ruined?
It'll be on the door frame at the top on the drivers side. If you're not trying to put the truck back completely original, it probably won't make much difference. Maybe the body isn't original. I wouldmnt worry about it. Good looking truck...

Re: is my truck ruined?
There should also be a stamped vin on the top of the frame on the driver's side in the engine compartment.

Re: is my truck ruined?
I am not sure how to find it here but I remember reading something about some states titled them based on the time the dealer sold the truck. The question was brought up in a post about a 60 or 61 I think. May be the case with yours.

Re: is my truck ruined?
if the VINs dont match here in KS, door different than frame, and neither one has been reported stolen, no big deal, they just assign it a KS number and rivet a new KS VIN plate.
if the vins match and the model year is "wrong" (could be a 65 leftover titled in 66 as PGsigns says) I think you'll be all right too.

Re: is my truck ruined?
check both vins frame and upper door plate, if the vins match the title then all you have to do is get the correct badging and a wiper speed control.........if they do not match call the dmv and ask, they cannot shoot you . Kieth

Re: is my truck ruined?
Frame has two vins stamped on the driver side top of frame one you can see in the engine bay and one under the cab, I agree if it's not been reported stolen keep on trucken I would also have the vin on the frame checked who knows I see alot of frames for sale where the body was parted out

I don't think it will bring much at Barrett Jackson in that condition.

Re: is my truck ruined?
Sounds like you have a 66, not a 65. :

Re: is my truck ruined?
No matter what year of ADB truck you see at shows, 95% of them are 1948s, regardless of any reality. I doubt you are going to have any issues, unless your State Patrol folks are known to nit-pick such things. For example, in some states, sand rails and harleys are scrutinized for engine and frame VIN matches, and history has shown mismatches to be impounded and/or confiscated. .
