Want to buy the Wife a Blazer
My wife has been hitting me up for years about wanting a Br**co I have convinced her that we should keep it in the Chevy family. She didn't know that the top could come off of a blazer as well. So I want to surprise her for her B-day in January with a Blazer. I know what to look for in 4wd vehicles but is there anything specific to the K5 that I need to look out for? She has expressed to me that she doesn't want a project so it has to be somewhat nice. I would really like to get a 73-75(I think) with the full top but will settle for 76-91. I would also like to keep it in the $5-6k area. i want to have a little bit of room in the overall budget to do a decent lift and nice tires and wheels for it. Thanks guys.

Re: Want to buy the Wife a Blazer
Look for a 88-91 as they will have TBI fuel injection and all the refinements they could add to the K5 line over it's entire model life cycle.

Re: Want to buy the Wife a Blazer
Yep that's exactly what I was going to say as well. Unless you really want the complete removable top from the earlier years. Just the usual check the 4x4 drive out thoroughly and check for any run such as by back window or where the top comes off. I would try and find a nice stock one cause you know then that it hasn't been beat on its whole life. Sounds like an awesome gift keep us posted on what you find for rigs

Seems like there's still plenty of unmolested trucks from the 80's, just be patient. I see them pop on ebay pretty regularly. I want five more of them.

Re: Want to buy the Wife a Blazer
I want to find a stock one for sure so i can make sure that it is lifted correctly. It will be a driver mostly with only an occasional off-road adventure, nothing extreme.(for now hehe)

Re: Want to buy the Wife a Blazer
Don't know where you're looking, but I looked for about 6 months for a nice 73-75 that fit my budget (~6k). I didn't find one here but it looks like there were plenty in CA and AZ for around that price.
I ended up buying a 91. I'm satisfied with it, but I gotta say, even though it has a softtop I think I would have enjoyed the full convertible a bit more.

Re: Want to buy the Wife a Blazer
I would love to buy yours and do it her way(with my influence of course) but she would kill me. I could have a nice running blazer with yours for way under the cap of $7k.

Re: Want to buy the Wife a Blazer
As far as engine, an LS will eventually find it's way in the engine bay.

Re: Want to buy the Wife a Blazer
does she like to sit in the sun
i am glad mine has some roof 78,been real hot here and found the roof gave nice shade when going topless on my fully converted topless 78, long drives we found hotter..... not like you can use the AC right lol and if she ever got caught out in the rain ,it would keep her dry till she got home

Re: Want to buy the Wife a Blazer
Quote:
1. Family history of melanoma makes me want to stay out of the sun. 2. Well, I live in an area where rain is more prevalent than sun, so if I get caught in it there is some protection from the rain. 3. You always have the soft top option, but removing and storing a full top is worse than the half top. 4. For my 91, FI. With the top off it still doesn't feel like a convertible though. So if that's really what you're looking for only the full 'vert will do.
