Re: leaf springs

10 leafs doesn't sound right. even the heaviest duty c10's from the factory came with 5 on each side. How rough do you want it to ride?

Re: leaf springs

The truck is very mix matched, big 10 cab. Stepside bed, duallie rear. Its a c10 4wd... i have heard of helper springs but i havent hesrd of thrm so i dont know what they would look like. I dint plan on running too rough, plowing in the winter this einter, probably not next, and toeing older cars is biut the roughest im going to do, i was thinking 5 would be plenty but wanted to see ehats up

This is incorrect. My old 74swb came w/the HD pkg which was 8-leafs.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: leaf springs

Start by measuring your springs (52 or 56" eye to eye following the arc of the main leaf). If you have 56" springs, you probably have 1 ton springs on there, there is a 10 leaf spring pack rated for 4000lbs, and a 5000lb pack.

If you have 52" springs, you may have extreme duty aftermarket springs, I was looking at leaf springs last week and came across a place that sold springs (52" and 56") for tow truck use. They had some massive packs. Of course, now that I need to find it again I can't. OR somebody at one time added a leaf to the 9 leaf pack, not uncommon if you are trying to haul more on the cheap.

7 leaf 2850 lb springs on my C10. Rides like a truck should =-) and doesn't sag when you are hauling something.

Re: leaf springs

Drivers side with the extra leaf? Fat guy owner and/or inbed camper haulers usually have the mixed springs I've noticed.

Re: leaf springs

One of the nice things about the 73-87, just about every combination under the sun, and then some more.

Re: leaf springs

I've attached the GVWR for 1977 C10's and C30's which will give you some idea of spring packs and ratings. For example, my C30 has 9 leafs per side + the overload. If I'm not mistaken the individual leaves are wider and thicker on the heavier trucks, but I may be wrong. I know the perches between a 12 bolt and a 14 bolt or Dana 70hd are wider, so I assumed the springs were wider as well.

I once owned a 1 ton Jeep J-30 that only has 3 leaves per side; they were each about an inch thick and that thing would pack a load as well as my C30.
