Photochop a full side view of your idea vs just moving the crossmember forward. For me, the issue is how far aft the wheels are. It affects the overall stance. Your idea fixes one of the symptoms, but not all.

Moving the cross member is just too damn much work. Brake lines, engine mounts steering, shock mounts, sway bar, etc. I just don't want so much space in front of the tire, the wheel placement being back towards the cab doesn't bother me all. Besides, I want to drive this thing with in the next decade and I don't get a ton of time to work on it these days.

I measured it out today but didn't have time to mess with it. The fender is going to end up being extended only 2". I'll have to tighten up the bumper by cutting 1 1/2" out of the frame in front of the radiator mount and extend each side about 2" to get them where I want.

i'm so used to seeing people stretch fenders (Pro-street, 4x4s) it was tough concieving closing them up but I ca't wait to see the rough in!!

That's a great look. I'd been thinking about how these would look with an Impala wheel arch grafted in, but like your idea better. It will make a tucked bumper look more stream lined too.

That will look pretty slick with a nice tight hugging bumper to compliment it. I happen to have a couple extra fenders as well.....!!!
