Trim clips
Anyone seen these things before? I pulled a nice set of upper trim pieces off a junkyard C10, and the door pieces were attached using these. I would like to find some so I don't have to drill holes in my truck to install the trim. The rest of the trim was held on using the original clips, but these actually held the trim on better than the original clips did. Is this original, or something aftermarket that I can get my hands on?

Re: Trim clips
After market glue on. Should be able to find them though your local body shop.

Re: Trim clips
They are original GM. Were used in 71/72 . You can get them aftermarket from many venders. They use a 3m adhesive backing and hold pretty good, but when the let go, they are done.

My 72 Cheyenne has those on the upper bedside trim. 71 super is right when they lose their sticky they are toast. You should be able to order them from any parts vendor. Joseph

Okay...It's a rat (no money for body work or paint yet). But the back (tailgate and tail lights) are getting the molding.

Re: Trim clips
Mag the trim on the tailgate and taillight HAVE to have the clips, to my knowledge the adhesive backed clips do no come in a size that will work for them(guess you could trim but would be pretty aggrevating)

Re: Trim clips
I had started another thread looking for these same clips. Can anyone help in naming a company that makes them. Thanks.

Re: Trim clips
3M makes a double-sided trim tape that might work for you, if your old clips have lost their grip. Kinda like Fix-A-Dent for re-attaching bits and pieces. Make sure you have an absolutely grease-free surface and no dirt.

Re: Trim clips
www.truckandcarshop.com also carries them. I bought mine there. I replaced the crappy double sided tape that comes on them with 3M outdoor grade double sided tape. They have held perfectly for two years now.

Re: Trim clips
Since I'm putting on the rear trim only..... and, 71 Super clued me into the fact that you HAVE TO HAVE the holes for the stock trim clips to work in that area, I decide to fab some.
From the outside it goes: - Trim piece - 1/4 " flat washer; - Small chunk of the 3M to hold on and space.. - 1" x 1/16" aluminum "bar" trimmed to about a shy 3/4" to fit the inside lips of the trim; - Another strip of 7/8" 3M trimmed to fit the exposed portion of the "bar"; - The full 7/8" 3M trim tape all along the lip of the trim that will now fully contact the paint on the truck. I may cut the "bar" into several (maybe 1" strips) . I was going to use 5 four inch metal strips of the bar along this trim piece, for example. But maybe 10 1" "clips" made fronm the bar will spread the load and adhesion a little better. And maybe lessen the weight. Oh, regarding weight. All this stuff is still as light as a feather. The weight of the aluminum "bar" is not a real issue. If I use the set-up as it is shown, naturally, the 7/8" 3M tape will run the whole length of the trim between the trim piece and the truck body.

Re: Trim clips
Can we take this thread to its next logical step?
How do you get the trim off and on the metal clips? I recently had a little fender bender (Doh!) and next to get this lower molding off, straightened out and reinstalled. It's still attached at the front. All the plastic sticky clips came loose.

Re: Trim clips
At the ends of the moldings there is a small bolt attached to a different clip which goes through the panel and uses a small retaining nut on the back.
By the way Wes at Classic Parts sells all the various types of clips for our upper & lower moldings. Like the one on the left in the pic.

Re: Trim clips
I thought there might be a way to remove/install the molding with the metal clips still on the bedside, but I see how it works now. Remove the nuts and the molding comes off.
Thanks!
