1966 GMC Question

I am looking at an 1966 Gmc, and wanted to know what motor was standard or what would be option? It is a 3/4 ton truck. Also, what was standard transmission wise...manual and auto?

Re: 1966 GMC Question

Standard engine was the V-6, the I-6 became on option in '64. V-8's were never offered those years. Not sure about all of the tranny's but I assume all were available.

Re: 1966 GMC Question

1966 was an interesting year for GMC with many new options. There were two models of 3/4 ton pickups the I series and the regular series built in the USA. The I series came with the 250 six cylinder. The regular series came with the 305 V6. Optional was the 351 V6. Standard trans was the 3 speed SM 318 manual on column. A full synchro 3 speed was available on special order option only. There were 2 4 speeds available as options also, the SM 420 and the NP435. There were also two automatics available as options , the 2 speed powerglide and the new 3 speed turbo hydramatic 400 which became available on 3/4 tons at mid year. Most GMC 3/4 ton trucks you will come across will have 305 V6's and 3 or 4 speed manuals.Canadian built GMC's generally used powertrain componets that are common with Chevrolet.
