Camper Mirrors: mounting location? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi all, I fitted some, ahem, ford mirrors on my crewcab project, based on most of the pics that I found. Seems to me that the mirror heads are too low for good vision on the passenger side, when they're swung in.
Also, though the lower arms are not correct, I figured I could move them closer together, to give some lift and make them look more like they should.
Flipped through the assembly manual and couldn't find the correct mounting hole locations. Wonder if anyone could measure the holes for me or have any suggestions or ideas.
Oh, and would this style camper mirror be available for a '69? Thanks.

Here's mine. I believe the basic style hasn't changed much with the exception of the mirror heads. It is difficult to see in the photo, but my driver side mirror head has been replaced with an aftermarket one that has the mounting hole offset toward one end about 1". I suppose it could be flipped over to gain some height if necessary.

As shown in these last two posts,the lower arms mount to the flair at the body line. The mirrors do mount low and are a trade off on rear visibility. They,like their smaller cousins are low mount to help increase visibilty out the window to avoid the mirror blind spot that was created by Senior West Coast mirrors.

Here's an original 72 C-20 that you can see the "flair" on the lower mounting point.

Anyone know how far apart the holes are for the lower arms?

I don't know how far apart the bottom supports should be, but as you can see in the picture below, mine were put a little too close together ( I wasn't there when they were attached ) I guess as long as I keep the truck under 140 mph, they'll stay on !!! LOL

I have saved a lot of pictures of original mirrors and the mirror in the bottom picture below looks more like how they should be. ( I think that is an original mirror )

Maybe someone will measure the spacing on their original mirror for you.
