1985 Radiator Options

I didn't want to hijack the thread for a 63-66 radiator so I figured I would start one for my truck.
I planned on getting a new radiator to go along with my swap. Plan 1: I can get a new alum 3 core with dual elec fans from champion for $315. It is set-up just like a stock radiator with the inlet and outlet on opposite sides. Plan 2: Entropy has one with the inlet/outlet on the passenger side and the trans cooler on the driver's side. That 1 costs $699 w/elec fans.

I like the 2nd option bc it cleans up the engine bay but has a hefty price tag. What would you do? Anyone have some pics of their engine bay with the stock style radiator showing how you routed the hoses?

Nrd, I have the Champion radiator myself, I have dual elec fans also, I like it, it works great, fits with no mods and also has the trans cooler in it. When I looked at this, I thought why spend ( I was looking at Be Cool) $1000.00 for a rad/fan combo? besides if it didnt work out, I had thrown good $ after bad before.

Im using the stock 85 radiator & fan shroud with stock 04 fan, fan clutch & radiator hoses. The only mod I made was soldering a 3/8" adapter to the heater hose nipple on the radiator for the steam hose. It work great! 100+ degrees outside idling in the sun with the A/C on.....No overheating or A/C head pressure problems.

I have terrible luck with aftermarket parts on my own vehicles. It seems my customers & others have better luck

I used a radiator out of a 99 Suburban, with trans and oil coolers built in, 40 bucks at the local yard. Then a generic elec fan from summit. The truck runs 190-205 even when towing a 7klb load....

I would use my stock one with an electric fan but it barely keeps my 305 cool(It's a 6cyl truck) and it's an eye sore. When I install the 6.0 I want to clean up the engine bay at the same time. For $310 shipped w/ dual electric fans, I can't beat that. I have read alot of good stuff about champion raditors so i don't really have any issues with purchasing one.

if I had any issue with them, I would blab it to anyone who would listen. I got a bad fan and I called them, told them about it, they set a replacement that day and I had it is 2 days.

Did the 99 Suburban radiator bolt right in or did you have to custom mount?.. Can you post a pic?

I had to custom mount it. It is a little wide for the core support, but it works. I installed a rubber mount on the lower part of the core support then use the stock upper mounts with rubber bumpers installed in them to hold the radiator in.

I just purchased this for my truck, couldn't justify spending over $600.00 for an Entropy setup. I will post pics when it comes in.

I run the be-cool and im happy with it, but since the PO put it in the truck when it became a 350 years back, I didn't have to foot the bill for it.

If it wasn't mentioned, the F**d Taurus fan setup is popular for going e-fan on the cheap. A dual fan setup with temp sender from a pick n pull is like $35
