New Guys...New Blazer
Hey Guys,
I just got a 1971 Blazer off of a friend. It sat for a while, so Its going to need a lot of work just to be road worthy. I'm going to need a lot of help. Tell me what you guys think. Also I have some question about some of my issues. My Fuel gauge doesn't work just wondering where i should start with that. also how do i take the IP out. I took the dash pad off, but i cant get the cluster out. And I've searched online but can't seem to find a good service/ overhallin manual, any suggestion. thanks josh Last edited by jav418; 08-29-2011 at 02:06 AM. Reason: adding pics |

Re: New Guys...New Blazer
Welcome to the board! The fuel gauge not working is probably a bad sending unit or wiring. I would trace the wiring and look for any raggedy pieces or possible shorts. Whats an IP? The gauge cluster is held in by 6 or 8 screws around the outermost piece of the bezel. After that, you just need to unhook a couple wires/cables hooked into it and it should come right out.
Oh, and pics or it doesn't exist. |

Re: New Guys...New Blazer
on your cluster it might help to loosen your column and let it drop down a bit makes it easier

Re: New Guys...New Blazer
Nice Blazer. As for removing the gauge cluster, the headlight switch is probably the trickiest part. The wiper knob is held on with a small screw but for the headlights you have to reach up under the dash and press a release button to pull the whole switch and knob out. If your battery isn't disconnected you have to remember that your lights have probably been turned on know. Hope this helps

Like 454 said, if you've got everything loose but it's not coming out, I'd bet it's the speedo cable. It's not very long under there, so you'll probably have to disconnect it from underneath before you can pull the cluster.

Re: New Guys...New Blazer
The cluster is fairly easy to pull out. Once you have done, it will only take about 10 minutes any other time. But before you pull it, I would check the tan wire that that runs from the sending unit from the top of the tank, toward the drivers side & under the door sill to the fuse box. They are easy to replace so check that after you make sure the fuse is not blown.

Good looking Blazer, Welcome aboard!
I think you will find lots of your answers in the FAQ section. I know I have found great tips and tricks in there. For the cluster removal, here is a quick overview http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=58035

Re: New Guys...New Blazer
Thanks guys for all the help, I was able to take it out and clean it up/ see why they weren't working. I have another question. In my Blazer I have a after market seat that is bolted in (haven't really looked how) and a back seat that just in the back (not bolted down either) I was wondering if someone had the measurements for all of the seats, driver, passenger and rear seat. From what I can tell there are braces for the seats along with brackets. I was going to try and make some new ones rather then spending 300 on some old ones.
thanks Josh |
