Harris Performance TBI chip...
Just installed the Harris Performance Inc Towmaster chip in my '88 1 ton crew cab and took a 500 mile tow/road trip to pick up a milk cow (banjos playing in background).
These things really work! Throttle response and acceleration was much improved as well as a noticable difference in power wile pulling hills. Milage was the same as before at around 10 mpg. I haven't got to drive with it much unloaded since putting in the chip. I was getting 10 mpg loaded, unloaded towing etc. so I'm guessing this will be the same. It also idles much smoother than before. It's nice to have a 5 minute install make a noticable difference. |

Brian is a genius! His stuff is the bomb! He'll be making me a custom chip when I put the Vortec 383 into my 88 burb. I'd never buy from someone else.

Re: Harris Performance TBI chip...
The chip was $130 to my door.
The timing is set to factory specs and you are suposed to run 91 octane or if you switch to a 180 thermostat you can run 87. Honestly though I had both tanks full of 87 when I installed it and the truck ran just fine anyway. No noticable pinging or anything like that... Might have to do with the elevation here. I ran 91 since then and I have a 180 thermostat sitting on the seat waiting to be installed. Since I posted I ran to town unloaded and all over town and I think I picked up a mile per gallon there. Re: Harris Performance TBI chip...
I don't know since I've never ran a 454 with a carb. I'm sure you could get more kick out of a carb setup in general since you can simply throw more fuel in there with a good carb, but for guys with TBI who want to run TBI but juice it up a little I think it's a viable upgrade comparing the stock chip to this one.

Re: Harris Performance TBI chip...
Contact link? Did you have to do any other adjustments (bump fuel psi etc....)?
I'm still working on getting my 461 back into the bay. I went w/flat-tops, a Mellings towing/RV cam, Edelbrock TBI intake, ditched the air pump set-up, & added 1.75" x 3" collector long tube headers. Sounds like one of his chips would serve me well....

He is a helluva guy. Real smart, he and I planned out everything for my Vortec 383 for my 88 burb.

Re: Harris Performance TBI chip...
100% sure now I'm definately getting better milage than before. Still haven't ran any numbers but it takes about 1/8th less fuel to drive to town and back now.
