Fan Shroud for my 56
Anybody know if there are aftermarket shrouds for these trucks? I will make one if I have to, but figured I would see if there were any out there.

Re: Fan Shroud for my 56
In mid 80's I pulled one off of a late 70's gm car and modified it to work. My rad is in the 6 cylinder position so fan to rad clearance is about 5 inches. Radiator is a big truck unit, 1" thicker and a little deeper than small trucks.

Re: Fan Shroud for my 56
My truck was (I'm fairly sure) originally a 6 cylinder and sometime later a 283 was installed. When I bought it a few months ago it had no shroud at all but I found this one at The Car and Truck Shop, Orange, CA:
http://www.truckandcarshop.com/trucks47_59/t47_071.html With minor modifications and a different fan spacer it fits fine for a driver that is: Hope these help. |

don't mean to hijack your thread but I'm in the same boat looking for a fan and shroud. Dan, my truck is an original V8 truck so I only have about 3 inches between pulley and radiator. So maybe no spacer for me? How much work did it take to get the shroud to work? thanks.

Re: Fan Shroud for my 56
Some mods were required but nothing complex at all. It's plastic so cutting it is easy. There are no holes in the mounting flange so you just drill some to coincide with the radiator mounting holes. My mechanic told me the fan blades should only extend 1/3 to 1/2 their width into the shroud for maximum "draw" or pulling of air. My original fan spacer was too long. The one you see is SHORTER than the original

Re: Fan Shroud for my 56
how big of a fan did you go with? I see the link you sent has a 6-blade in 17 and 18 inch.

Re: Fan Shroud for my 56
fwiw my fan is an 18" aftermarket steel/ss blade unit. In needed a 1" spacer to get the fan located in the center of the "hour glass" venturi portion of the shroud.

like i said above, i've got prolly less than 3" between my (WP) pulley a the face of the radiator. Guess I'll have to get a fan and shroud then determine how big a spacer, if any, is needed to get my blades located properly in the shroud. Do you recall where you purchased your fan from?
