Re: vortec heads on a 305?
vortecs on a stock 305..not much..i say 165 or more..save em, cause you will have to have em milled down to get yoy cp ratio back to stock 305 specs.

Re: vortec heads on a 305?
Make sure the valves will clear the cylinder, the bore on the 305 is smaller than the 350. It would be a shame to bolt those on and the valves wont open...

Re: vortec heads on a 305?
There are two ways to go about building a 383, find a 400 crank and have it machined, come up with the rotating assembly, or there are a couple companies that make a pre-machined crank and rotating assembly in a kit, Nothern Auto Parts sells a kit, 400 crank, rods, piston, bearings, the works, personally that would be the way I would go. Also, are they TRUE Vortec heads, or earlier center bolt heads off a G-block? G-blocks ran from 87 to 95 (I think) and then came the Vortec. The way to tell them apart is easy, the G-block heads will have six bolt holes for the intake on each side, the center two being almost straight up and down, compared to the front two and rear two, and the Vortec heads are missing the center two. If the later is the case you will need an aftermarket intake to run a carb, if they're the earlier set, you can carefully drill the center holes in the intake straighter, and make a spacer to go between the head of the bolt and the intake.

I wouldnt waste them on a 305. On a 350 you can get 300 HP pretty easy. Nothern Auto Parts is in town here and a very reputable company.
