What's purpose of a voltage sensing wire for alternator?

Hello, whats the purpose of the bulb wired in series between the ignition switch and terminal 1 on the alternator when converting to an alternator? I've read on how to wire this up but don't understand the voltage sensing wire and the purpose of putting a bulb in its line. Thanks Tony

Just a warning{idiot light}I have never wired them in a conversion. A gauge is always better than a light.

I'm going to borrow this explanation from another site.

But basically the remote voltage sensing wire helps keep the alternator charging at a rate that will keep up with all the accessories and components on the car but not overcharge the battery.

Link here with a pretty good explanation.

I have been do this work too! No attitude here, just looking for why you didn't like his write ups. Many discuss it, your the first to state it is all wrong. Thought you might know something the others didn't. Guess we can agree to disagree.

Re: What's purpose of a voltage sensing wire for alternator?

I guess this has been wrong for the last 10 years. LOL

Field to ignition{no light} Stator goes to output, output through a 60amp ampmeter to isolator to 2 optma batterys with 2 hd solonoids so 1battert runs all electrics and the other kiks in to help witt the winch. and I have a toggle switch to jump the main batterywith the aux battery if need be.
I came up with all that by myself.
