1 ton cab. same as 1/2 ton?

Hey guys, i have a chance to get a 1950 1 ton chevy truck. So my question is.. The cab and front clip on a 1 ton the same as a 1/2 ton? What would the differences be if there are any. I will be doing the s10 frame swap. Thanks in advance.

mine is.but if it weren't it would still be cool maybe a bit cooler.

The cabs are the same but depending on how the 1 ton was set up the wheel well openings may be the same or larger.

So the cab is the same. But the fenders could be a different size.. Can anyone else verify this info?

fender openings are the same up to 1 1/2 ton. the two I checked are the same as my 1/2 ton. one is a 9' bed the other is an old 1 1/2 ton orchard truck. both are in my back yard so I see them everyday.

The 1 1/2 ton fenders are bigger. They are 4" wider and the hood is different!

1/2 ton to 1 ton are the same sheet metal. I had an ongoing discussion with Old Sub for a while on the opening of the wheels. There may be some difference if they were running 19" rims on the 1 ton. He passed away before we could get together and arm wrestle for it. The truck I had with the bigger openings I'd already sold so I could measure!

There is also a rumor floating around that the 1 ton front fenders are wider. that is what got me to measuring. too bad it's just a rumor. low and wide would look cool

Mknittle, Your truck may have had parts swapped so measuring your fenders as a comparison isn't going to be accurate. The picture you showed has the 1 piece windshield and vent windows making it 54+ but the grill laying on the back is 47-53 and corrrect me if I'm wrong those fenders also look 47-53. I think the front grill opening was different.

I'm by no means an expert but I'd say that truck you pictured had the front clip swapped at some point so the fenders you mesured may be 1/2 fenders on the big truck.

Yeap it is a 54. out of the 9 we have it is the only one and no bed so it will likely end up a flat bed dually

No, 54s have wind wings or vent windows as well. They were standard starting in '51 even though '51s had the turn down handles.

The grille opening on the blue fenders is a '54. You can see the curve at the top rather than a square edge. There are also indents for the marker lights from the 54/5S1 grille ends. It's just a heavy 1 ton with the 19 or 20" wheels. Probably a dually looking at the front wheels.

How'd you get to 9? I've only got 6!!

mknittle, you could help me out by measuring your wheel openings, though. I sold my 1 ton a long time ago and that is what we were arguing. I was sure my openings were about 1" bigger radius than my lighter trucks (I've got 1/2, 3/4, and 2 single wheeled 1 tons to go with my 1 1/2 ton). Wow, I guess I'm down to 5 trucks now! I forgot I sold one in May...

we had 15 6 years ago.

The 54 is in pretty good shape.

Sorry, been gone. I'm not sure how to do it exactly but I'd like to see if you could run a line from edge to edge at the bottom and then see how high the center of the wheel arc is. I could have sworn my old fenders had about an inch more opening but they are long gone.

That's OK I was too we are setting up for a Bonsai show next weekend.
I put a straight edge from the bottom of the radius in front to the bottom of the radius in the back then measured to to the highest vertical point. I get 16 3/8"
to 16 1/2" on 3 different trucks 1ton 3/4ton and 1/2ton.
