Seat upholstery

I am trying to reupholster my seats, I have them all torn down, and cleaned the frame and springs, painted them. Just about every parts company sells a seat cover, but no one seems to have the foam, or the other stuff, what is that, burlap in there?

I assume that most people just hog-ring it all back together, but i was hoping to keep it stock, does anyone have an assembly manual for the original?

what burlap? there is no burlap. Just kidding there is burlap to separate the coil springs and sometimes over the cotton to keep the cover from tearing it up when the cover is put on. A good upholstery supply should have it. You want the cotton called 15/85 linters it don't look so good but it works great And yes on the hog rings, Get the upholstery ones they are smaller than the ones used by farmers.

hog rings can also be used to tie the springs together. what i do is use the wire ties that come with trash bags first, that way I don't waste a bunch of hog rings if something isn't the way I like. when It looks good I go back and hog ring it. it you have any weak springs stuff cottin in them do the same on both ends driver and passenger sides because those springs get the hardest use.

Or to bolster the sides you can just put in a bunch of 2x4's and plywood like my original seat had when it was reupholtered. You might consider adding a layer of memory foam to soften it up a bit make getting it smooth easier.

I might on the disassembly tape I still need to tranfer from an old camcorder. I sold the seat a while ago.

So burlap down the springs, and then get a sheet of foam, and cover it. How thick of foam did you use? How much trimming did you do to contour it?

I've seen foam at places like Fred Meyers, and hardware stores.

I used cotton but I don't see why foam wouldn't work Just dont use the cheap soft stuff. The part that you sit on needs to be pretty firm the back is usually softer.
