Leaking Intake - Gotta Love It - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've been chasing this oil leak since I put the 383 into the '64, and this whole time I thought it was the mechanical oil pressure sender on the back of the block. Turns out that it's the intake manifold.

I got tired of screwing with it and took it to the shop down the street yesterday. They've had it, and still have it, trying to seal the intake down. Seems that the block was machined a bunch. Their latest attempt is a bunch of Ultra Copper. I'm hoping that it holds. I left the truck down there overnight to let the stuff set up for a full 24hours.

Anyone have any other suggestions? It looks like the big issue is in the valley. I don't have any photos since the truck's down the road currently.

I have run into the same thing .. I had one that was cut so much it touched the chime rail, so I milled it .100 accross the intake mating surface and it was fine ,. I dont normally use the end gaskets,just silicone..........

It sounds like you used the end gaskets on the intake to block? I used to use them all the time, but anymore I just use a good bead of RTV black,front and back. That is what is recommended these days.

Instead of RTV, I would recommend getting some Permatex the Right Stuff....seals even better, doesn't deteriorate over time, and you don't have to wait for it to setup. The only bad thing about it is if you ever have to take it back apart.......I've had to pry intakes as much as 2" apart to get it to tear

Works awesome as a replacement for oil pan rubber end seals too....no leaks

Got er back... no leaks! Now if Mr. Flakey would show up and buy the truck... he's promised to come by 4x in the past week. Love craigslist, hate selling the truck.
