Rear door/side/tailgate windows suburban

Looking at swapping the rear door/side/tailgate windows with factory deep tint out of an 89 sub into an 80;I think the glass is thinner on the 81 up;anyone done this and did you have to change glass channels and or window mounts to make it work....

Re: Rear door/side/tailgate windows suburban

i switched the front door vents and glass, everything from the 89 to the 78 fit
but the glass was almost twice as thick
you have to use the plastic clips for the later handles
the rods with metal clips are thicker, and didn't fit...

Re: Rear door/side/tailgate windows suburban

The tinted glass on the middle doors is 2 panes of glass, one inner and one outer, with plastic in the middle. I know because I cracked the inner pane of glass on the drivers side, rear pass door trying to breakin after locking my keys in at the boat ramp.

The outer pane is fine so I am just leaving it like that for now...

Yes, the factory deep tinted glass is thick as hell! The above post is correct. As far as comparing them to the older ones I am not sure, only delt with 80's sub's.

Re: Rear door/side/tailgate windows suburban

the thicker is the older glass
and the glass is like that on some spare doors i have
noticed yesterday a crack on the inside not the outside and they are supposed to be 88 doors

Re: Rear door/side/tailgate windows suburban

I measured the glass on the 1980 and it is .190 thick;the front glass on the 89(non-tint) is .125 thick;the layered tinted glass on the 1989 is .190 thick also so I think it will work in the 1980 without changing the channels.

Will find out when I take the doors and tailgate apart.

All you have to do is use the correct window chanel rubber for the year model glass you are using.
