What radios interchange with 1986 K-10?
My orginal radio is on its way out, and I'm wondering what years and vehicle makes are interchangable -- does anyone know?
Thanks! |

I think pretty much any shaft style radio should work, are you looking for a factory radio or will any do?

almost any gm two knob should fit in there.. you could alter the radio face hole a little and throw in a cadillac digital radio from the eighties too

I'm running the one thirdstreettito recommended, and I love it. Fit perfectly, and no issues at all.

Re: What radios interchange with 1986 K-10?
Yes it will. It fits in any 73-87 GM truck. I have one in my '83, which is identical to your 86 other than the wipers being on the column as well as the high beams.

The eBay web page says no it won't, but you tried it and it worked? No cutting, and did you need to do any splicing for the speaker leads?

Re: What radios interchange with 1986 K-10?
It comes with a pigtail and the plug for the radio. Mine had no speakers in it, so I had to wire the speakers up manually. Not sure if the factory plug will just plug in. All I know is it sounds great, I love it. The AUX input is nice for playing an Ipod through. Mine sounds good even through factory 80's speakers!

Re: What radios interchange with 1986 K-10?
The compatability chart is wrong on that listing. All the radios from 73-87 will interchange, the dash hole is the same as is the wiring. Go to Custom Autosounds website and look there. Also I had one a couple of years ago in a different project called Retrosound, I liked it, and it is a little cheaper than the one here.

Thank you, fellow Chevy truckers.
Gonna buy one of these bad boys, I'll post some pix of the install, plus any wiring changes that are needed. |

Re: What radios interchange with 1986 K-10?
Well, Iordered up the radio yesterday. Spoke to a guy named Dallas. He was really helpful, and confirmed that the chevy truck radio will fit up through '86.
He says there is a wireing kit availibe at Autozone, Walmart, ect that will do the wiring without having to do any cutting. Hopfully I wil have some install pix by the end of the month. |

Re: What radios interchange with 1986 K-10?
OK,so I got the radio (looks good) and bought the Metra wiring clip 70-1677-1. Trouble is, the wire colors on the Metra harness and the tags on the same color radio wires don't match. What's the right thing to do, just match RL to RL, for example, and don't worry about the color of the wires?

Re: What radios interchange with 1986 K-10?
I'm curious how hard it is to fit a newer GM Delco like used in the 88-91 Subs and K5s when it originally came with the this older style.

Re: What radios interchange with 1986 K-10?
There's a place (Can't remember where) but you send them your stock radio, and they rebuild it with new guts like a new radio would have.
it will look totally stock, use factory plugs, etc, only the stuff inside you cant see is updated. I saw one guy even installed an ipod port on his. |
