source 72 blazer body mounts question

Hello ..I want to replace the body mount bushings on my 72 blazer ..its in really decent shape with not much rust .I did some thread research here and opinions vary but lean toward stock rubber type bushings over poly .

my question is where do you get them and can I get a complete kit or do I need to re use the bolts, washers, spacers etc ? are there any tips any one cares to share on doing this job the best way ?

I bought the poly kit and it came complete with all the hardware

I bought two factory style sets from Tim Christian, a board vendor here.

All inclusive, one box, individually packaged, ready to install.

Tim's an excellent resource and really good to deal with.

Here's a good reference sheet, makes install easy.

I just finished installing my body mount bushings, that I bought in a kit. The kit was complete with bolts, nuts, washers,shims, etc. I do not like the poly bushings, and went with the stock rubber bushings. The bolts are welded into the body, and I did not want to listen to my die grinder all day, so I took a center punched all of the bolts, and started with a small drill bit. Going up two drill sizes until I got to 1/2" Then took a very sharp chisel and cut off the remaining bolt head. My thinking was that if I did it this way, and the bolts were stuck in the body, I could drive them down and out. Not drive them up and out with all kinds of crud in my eyes. It worked well. I will caution you to count the shims at each bushing and put them back accordingly. I am lucky in that I have a lift and once I got all of the bolts out, I had someone in the Blazer, and I was underneath. Used a hootie poll to raise the body and slip the new bushings in place. Look for a recent post. I have a picture of a hootie poll. It is a 1/2 to all day job, depending how well it goes. Chip

thanks for the posts ..and tips on installing ..I can get on orig style rubber kit with bolts and everything for 320 canadian which is about 240 us dollars ..didnt know or hear before that the bolts were welded oh well ..did you reweld them after

I would guess the bolts were welded for assembly and not required. I got a poly bushing kit with the 2wd blazer I just bought but as a driver I think I'd prefer rubber.

did not reweld them. Somewhere down the road my Blazer is coming off the frame.

yeah that makes sense not re welding them. my bolts look to be in really good condition but im thinking if I tryed to reuse them without cutting the welds I will need to lift the whole body up to slip in the bushings shims etc and that would be nearly impossible
am I right / wrong ? deffinatly looking forward to doing the job to see if the doors close right again after and the top fits ..after i took off the top the body drooped and it did not fit nice any more and as I said the doors close hard ..the truck does not have big rust issues ..all tips appriciated .thanks Leon

so how did it go? Do you preferr the rubber becasue the ride is a bit smoother? I got polys and will be doing this in Feb. Is it best to take the dog house ooff or do it all bolted together?

I did poly on mine years ago. I never really noticed any ride quality differences but it's been so long I can't be certain. I just knew I didn't want to do it again in 10 years so I went poly, once and done.

I have no issues with it, it's quiet and squeak free. Doors shut perfect, no top leaks.

My thoughts exactly. Did you have to but different bolts? I heard the polys dont use the stock bolt sizes?

If I remember right, the poly kit came with bolts but I didn't use them.

I reused my original hardware and just used the poly mounts. My blazer has lived a rust free life in AZ so everything came apart nicely, simply cleaned the original hardware and reinstalled with anti-seeze.

I got mine off ebay this summer, but cant remember if they had bolts. Im glad to hear yours worked.. Hope mine do to. I dont they are too bad. Some head and pb should get it..
