16x6.5
I know this is probably a stupid questions, but I have a set of 16x6.5 rims off a 98 3500. I've had them for some time now, I think they fit my 84 3/4 ton, but my stupid question is will 315/75/16's fit on them or is 6.5 too small for 315's?
I found some winter rated tires in 315/75/16's Yokohama's, and would like to get that size, but if the rims don't work, I'll likely look for some 285's. Whats the narrowest rim I could go? Thanks in advance, Steve

They will fit on there, but for a 315 I wouldn't go narrower than an 8" wheel, and a 9" would be better, and 10" not a problem. The 8" rim is what I went to on my 265's.

Mike C has it right -- recommended rim width for those tires is from 8" to 10". You could physically mount 'em and run 'em, but if you maintain decent air pressure for highway use, the center of the treads will wear prematurely.

Ya, thats what I was thinking. I had the rims in the garage from an old truck and was hoping I could utilize them. I was hoping to get the 315's because I found an actual winter tire in that size, and I'm having a harder time finding a winter tire in a 285 or even a 255/85.
Maybe I'll just look for some cheap rims for the 315's.

It seems silly that 315s can be found in winter tire when it's hard to find the 285/75s and especially silly for 255/85s. Wide tires suck in snow and on ice compared to narrower tread. Go figure...

I know, the thing with the 255/85's is that they are all mud or hardcore mud tires, very few are street tires, let alone snow tires. And there are 285 winter tires, but they cost more then the 315's I found.

BFG AT's are M&S rated, not pure snow tire, but they make a 255 85 16.

Yeah, but I'm looking for an actual winter tire. The tires I have now, are fine in the snow, but it's the ice underneth that I want to deal with. M&S are ok in the fluffy stuff but in the packed down hard icy snow, there as good as bald tires.

Yeah,I had a hard time finding a set of 255/85-16 all terrains or all seasons,other than BFGs,so I went to 285/75s. I used to run Kelly Safari AWRs because they wore well for road use in my heavy work truck. BFGs are much more pricey and sidewalls aren't good for much payload from my experiences.
